Privacy Policy

Last updated: 1 November 2026

Wordwave is an online Christian radio station in Centurion, South Africa. We respect your privacy and handle personal information in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA). This page explains what we collect, why, and what your rights are.

In short

  • You don’t need an account. You can listen without telling us who you are.
  • We don’t use advertising or tracking cookies, and we don’t sell your information.
  • We only collect personal information if you send it to us: your email for the app link, or your details in the contact form.
  • You can ask us to see, fix or delete your information at any time.

1. Who we are

The responsible party for this website is [Wordwave legal or registered name], based in Centurion, Gauteng, South Africa. Our Information Officer is [name]. You can reach us through our contact page.

2. What we collect

When you listen

Listening needs no sign-up. The radio player on our Listen page is loaded from our streaming server. Like any website and audio stream, our servers and our streaming provider automatically record technical details such as your IP address, device and browser type, and the time you connected. We use this to keep the service running, to protect it from abuse, and to count how many people listen. It is not used to identify you personally.

When you ask us to email you the app link

We use your email address once, to send you a single message containing the link. We do not store it in a list and we do not use it for marketing. Our email system may keep a short technical record that the message was sent.

When you use the contact form

We receive your name, email address, the topic you choose and your message. This may include a prayer request, which can be personal. Please share only what you are comfortable with. Your message is emailed to us and is not saved in the website’s database.

On your device

The radio player may remember settings such as your volume in your browser’s local storage. This stays on your device, is not sent to us, and you can clear it in your browser settings. We do not use cookies for advertising or tracking. This website runs on WordPress, which only sets sign-in cookies for our own staff, not for visitors. Station staff (presenters and managers) can sign in to the radio station from the top of the page; only they get sign-in cookies from the station, including a small “sw_staff” cookie that only says someone is signed in, so the page can show their name and links. Visitors never get these cookies, and the page doesn’t contact the station for visitors.

Protection against abuse

To stop spam on our forms, we keep a one-way scrambled (hashed) version of your IP address for up to one hour to limit how often a form can be used. It cannot be turned back into your address.

3. Why we use it

  • To reply to your messages and prayer or song requests (with your consent).
  • To send you the app link you asked for (with your consent).
  • To run, secure and improve the radio service (our legitimate interest).
  • To meet legal obligations where required.

4. Who we share it with

We do not sell or rent your information. We use trusted service providers who handle data on our behalf, only to run the service: our web hosting provider, our audio streaming provider and our email provider. They may process data on servers outside South Africa. Where that happens, we expect them to protect it to a standard comparable to POPIA. We may also disclose information if the law requires it.

5. How long we keep it

  • Contact messages: up to 12 months in our mailbox, then deleted, unless you ask us to delete them sooner.
  • App link emails: not kept by us beyond the send record held by our email provider.
  • Technical server and stream logs: up to 90 days.

6. How we protect it

Our site uses an encrypted (HTTPS) connection, and we limit access to personal information to people who need it. No method of sending information over the internet is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect yours.

7. Your rights

Under POPIA you may:

  • ask whether we hold information about you, and ask for a copy;
  • ask us to correct or delete it;
  • withdraw your consent or object to how we use it;
  • complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa if you feel we have handled your information badly. See inforegulator.org.za for their current contact details.

To use any of these rights, contact us. We may need to confirm who you are first.

8. Children

Wordwave is for everyone to enjoy, but our forms are meant for adults. If you are under 18, please ask a parent or guardian before sending us your details. If we learn we hold a child’s information without a parent’s consent, we will delete it.

9. Links to other sites

If we link to other websites, they have their own privacy practices that we do not control.

10. Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle personal information, we will update this page and the date at the top.

We’re happy to help. Get in touch and we’ll respond as soon as we can.
